Ignacio Portes is a Buenos Aires-based journalist with over 10 years of experience covering Latin America’s politics, economics and financial markets for international audiences.
He currently serves as Latin America Editor at The Brazilian Report, where he writes and edits a twice-weekly newsletter read by policymakers, diplomats and business leaders from Washington to Beijing. His coverage spans the full breadth of Spanish-speaking Latin America — nearly 20 countries from Mexico to Argentina — including every major election across the region in recent years.
Previously, he worked as Stand-in Southern Cone Correspondent for the Financial Times, covering Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. He has also contributed to Al Jazeera, the Buenos Aires Herald and other international outlets.
As a former Economy editor, Ignacio brings a finance lens to political reporting — explaining not just what happens, but why it matters for markets and policy. He has closely followed the rise and fall of the Kirchners, Macri, Fernández and Milei in Argentina, and tracked the emergence of new political forces across the region, from Bukele in El Salvador to Boric in Chile.

Ignacio holds a degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. He has a background in data analysis and natural language processing.
